This week we’re talking about why setting boundaries outside of work protects both your life and your leadership.

I don’t take client calls after 7pm.

Not because I don’t care.
Not because the work isn’t important.

But because boundaries are what allow me to show up fully—both for my clients and for myself.

The Professional Role

All day, I’m “Ashley the business owner.”

• Aligning strategy with execution

• Building systems that scale with you

• Turning hidden drains into sustainable momentum

• Holding space for founders who need clarity when everything feels urgent

It’s demanding work, and I care deeply about it. But if I never step out of that role, I risk losing the energy and perspective that make me good at it in the first place.

The Personal Role

After 7pm, I get to just be Ashley.

• The woman who shuts the laptop and eats dinner while it’s still warm

• The friend who replies to texts with more than one-word answers

• The partner who spends time with her significant other

These aren’t small things. They’re the parts of life that sustain me, and they’re what allow me to show up refreshed and focused when I step back into “business owner” mode.

Why Boundaries Matter

That Slack ping can wait until morning.
That fire smoldering in someone’s inbox will still be there tomorrow.

But the chance to be fully present with the people who know me outside of work? That moment is fleeting.

We’re not actually indispensable 24/7. But the people in our lives may need us to act like we are—for them.

A Question for You
